Biography

These pictures have been taken over many years – not informed by an academic background, but by a personal aesthetic that has not particularly changed over time. Always black and white, and hand printed as limited-edition silver gelatine archive prints.

The practice is guided by things I appreciate – an epic tale, an unexplained coincidence, seeing mystery in the mundane.

Project Statement

I create images to illustrate whimsical, untold stories. These stories have never seen, nor will ever see, the light of day, but the images exist and endure to tell fantastical tales. Tales of pilgrims and lost causes, of pursuits and evasions, of beasts and adventurers.

I have approached this series of images in the noble tradition of a knight-errant. I wander the countryside in search of adventure. However, there is little romance or chivalry to be found, mostly there are trudging miles of frustration and anxiety but occasionally the stars do align, a picture is taken and another chapter takes shape. These images with their captions offer an alternative view, confusing reality and fiction.
